Packing for travel can be troubling when you are going to be gone over a weekend or longer. A big mistake that many travelers experience is packing too many clothing items. As they enjoy their seasonal vacations, they realize that some of the things that they packed were completely unnecessary. Some things, like a swimsuit for tropical vacations or a parka for colder destinations cannot be avoided, though there are quite a few that you can simply leave home.

Ideas for clothing options to travel light are simple; plan to wear things more than once. Vary your wardrobe with basic black and neutral colors so that you can double clothing items for a variety of looks. Belts, scarves and accessories can change the entire appearance of an ensemble. The classic little black dress can be made into several outfits by simply adding a fancy belt and dressy shoes or by throwing a scarf around your neck and wearing casual sandals. Avoid taking too many shoes though, because they do take up luggage space and the goal is to pack less. One pair of sandals, dress shoes and walking shoes should be plenty of footwear options for your vacation.

If you are going to a beach resort or tropical location, it is perfectly acceptable to wear your swimsuit with a light skirt or cover-up shawl. Tourists and locals alike will be dressed in these summer types of clothing. You can even plan on utilizing the suit as an optional top to wear with dressy shorts or a long evening skirt for the evenings.
